5/14: Today is the last Friday I'll be hiking in AZ. I did the usual Tuesday hike to Silly Mountain this morning. Someone had tossed the "High Point" sign down the east side of the peak. Fortunately it was next to the trail I used to go up, so I carried it back up and stuck it back in the crevasse that holds it in place. Took a new shot of the Superstition Mountains this morning also. It's mostly in the shadows in the early morning. I liked the cloud formations! Taken with the standard 50mm f/1.4. Post processing included running a "polarizing" filter to darken the blue sky. ![]() |

5/11: Still hiking to Silly Mountain every Tuesday morning. About 4 miles round trip from our community center to the top of the "mountain" and back. Changed the picture at right to one of me at the top. I guess it's in keeping with the silly theme that the sign was put up there to let us know we reached the end of the trail (top of the mountain) and should not go any further!

| 5/11: I was taking pics of the baby doves yesterday. Noticing how big there were and how mom was leaving them alone in the nest a lot. They have been preening feathers for several days and now and then would spread out their wings. So, it was a small surprise to find they had left the nest this morning. | doves, flew the nest | |
5/5: Tacos for Cinco de Mayo! The baby doves are getting bigger. Flexing their wings sometimes. |

5/3:Two babies! They were active and feeding while we watched today. Even got a picture during the "changing of the guard" when mom flew off and dad was still on a nearby branch. The feeding pictures are of dad. Click on Picture for more images.![]() |

5/2: The baby is born! We've been watching a pair of doves sitting on a nest in our lemon tree, just outside our bedroom window. Today, for the first time, we saw a bit of the baby bird's head and beak. Mom's still protectively sitting there. More pictures when we see more of the baby. |

5/1: Search & Rescue exercise on Camelback mountain. Yesterday, during the MBV Hikers climb on Camelback Mountain, the local fire departments had some fun. A woman sprained her ankle on the mountain. There must have been 20 Fire/Rescue trucks at the scene (they wouldn’t all fit in the parking lot and went all the way down the access road). A rescue helicopter was called and picked up the woman from up on the saddle and deposited her at the small helipad at the trail head. She was then able to walk with assistance to the ambulance. And a fun day was had by firemen from many districts. Additional pictures are located in the Slide Show to the right under "MBV Hikes 2010." |
